The Richard Wagner Conservatory offers courses that last 8 semesters in the first cycle and 4 semesters in the second cycle. The minimum age for entry is 16 years with no maximum age limit. There are two semesters per year. Students who are admitted will be placed in the year that suits their level of education and in some cases not necessarily in to the first year of studies. Students can apply to study the following: violin, cello, viola, double bass, guitar, flute, recorder, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, piano, singing, accordion, organ, conducting and composition. In addition to instrumental lessons, subjects that are taught at the Richard Wagner Conservatory are: parallel piano, music theory, harmony and counterpoint, solfeggio/aural training, structural analysis, music history, orchestra, chamber music, choir, Italian for singers, speech training, elementary music education, introduction to pedagogy and psychology and cultural studies.  All classes are held in German Language. For different courses subjects may vary.

Students who have auditioned for entry to the Richard Wagner Conservatory and whose level of education is not yet of the required standard will be placed on the Preliminary Studies course, which can last a minimum of two and a maximum of four semesters.
At the Richard Wagner Conservatory students are studying towards the Teaching or the Artistic Diploma. Both courses last 8 semesters in the first cycle and 4 semesters in the second cycle. Upon successful completion of their studies, students will be presented with the Richard Wagner Conservatory Artistic Diploma that is internationally recognized and is given under the license of the Austrian government.
